Bruadarach

We were proud to receive a High Commendation for The Aberdeen Architects Design Awards in 2020 for Bruadarach.

Surrounded by open fields this new building home Bruadarach, rests within the Dee valley where a variety of rural architectural styles from traditional to contemporary are present.

The design used various building materials which are common to the North East of Scotland. This created a uniform natural colour palette whilst giving a modern style to the building. The materials are purposely broken up by change in use or emphasising the specific element they are assigned.

An H-shaped plan provides  necessary accommodation and living spaces and allows for a private area to be formed in the garden to the south. The main body of the house, with a 45º roof pitch and roof windows, makes up the primary accommodation and living spaces. An open plan living area, to the south, runs parallel to this and takes advantage of the south light using large glazed features. The centre linking section houses a utility room and entrance vestibule.

Siberian Larch Cladding, with both a SiOO:X Original & Black vacuum coating treatment, is used in combination with a Dark Grey Corrugate Steel Roof in response to local agricultural buildings. Local granite stone, natural slate, and a white silicone render are also used to enhance the appearance of a traditional finish.
