Gate Lodge

Gate Lodge is an iconic landmark in the deeside town of Banchory. Once Blackhall Castle Gates, the gates are now all that remain of the castle, demolished after WW2. The Gate lodge now serves as a fishing lodge and entrance to the fishing beat alongside the River Dee on the south bank extending westwards.

The silver granite building was in need of some care and modernisation. Careful consideration was given to the design in updating the exterior facade. Full replacement of windows and the east extension was modernised with replacement sarnafil roof , and vertical siberian larch cladding and replacement white render to the lower portion of the extension.

Alterations were made to the internal to maximise living and dining accommodation The renovation included re-insulation of the envelope.  Overall reducing heat loss and cold bridging whilst increasing air tightness.
